"Waiting On" Wednesday: The Hedgewitch Queen (Hedgewitch #1)

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that I’m eagerly anticipating.

This week I picked a book that I’m interested in for a few reasons.  First, it sounds great – a Princesse and a King’s Guard on the run from an evil sorcerer.  The whole description sounds very opulent and delicious and it’s Lilith Saintcrow, so you know, duh.  Second, it’s the very first ebook-only release by Orbit, which I find sort of fascinating because I’m weird that way.  It’ll be interesting to see if they put the same effort into the editing process as they do with their print books.  Third – the cover ‘ho in me was petting and drooling over the cover long before I even knew about reason one and two.  She’s so ridiculous like that, I can hardly take her anywhere.

The Hedgewitch QueenThe Hedgewitch Queen (Hedgewitch #1)

By Lilith Saintcrow
Publisher: Orbit
Publication Date: December 1, 2011
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

Vianne di Rocancheil is a lady waiting at the Court of Arquitaine, where she studies her books, watches for intrigue, and shepherds her foolhardy Princesse through the glittering whirl. Court is a sometimes-unpleasant waltz, especially for the unwary, but Vianne treads its measured steps well.

Unfortunately, the dance has changed. Treachery is afoot in gilded and velvet halls. A sorcerous conspiracy is unleashed, with blood, death, and warfare close behind. Vianne must flee, carrying the Great Seal of Arquitaine with her. This is the one thing the conspirators need to rule, and they won’t rest until they have it. A life of dances, intrigues, and fashion has not prepared Vianne for this. Nor has it prepared her for Tristan d’Arcenne, Captain of the King’s Guard and player in the most dangerous games conspiracy can devise. Yet to save her country and avenge her Princesse, Vianne will become what she must and do whatever is required.

A Queen can do no less.
