"Waiting On" Wednesday: The Scorpio Races

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that I’m eagerly anticipating.

I’m a huge fan of all things Maggie Stiefvater. Her writing has such soul, don’t you think? Shiver is firmly entrenched in my top ten favorite YA books. I bought a copy and have lent it to everyone I know, and they’ve all become addicted as well. And now.. she’s writing a new series. Stiefvater is like crack, I swear. Not that I’ve ever tried it myself, but you know what I mean.

This book sounds completely different than anything else available right now. I’ve heard it’s light on the romance, but in this case I don’t think I’ll mind.

I. can’t. wait!

The Scorpio RacesThe Scorpio Races

By Maggie Stiefvater
Publisher: Scholastic
Publication Date: October 18, 2011
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.
